Ranking on the first page of Google is no longer the finish line; it’s just the baseline. You focus on ensuring brands are visible across AI-powered experiences, from Google’s AI Overviews to ChatGPT, and exploring the latest agents and LLMs to stay on the cutting edge. You proactively help clients position their brand within this new search landscape, blending technical expertise with strategic insight. Our senior Search & Generative Engine Optimization specialist is an integral part of our strategy team, working across a wide range of clients and projects. A senior S&GEO specialist at Modus typically reports to an associate director and above.

Responsibilities

• Architect comprehensive SEO and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) strategies that position Modus clients for visibility across both traditional search and AI-driven discovery platforms
• Support the growth of our GEO offering, working directly with clients to shape and deliver programs hands-on as both a strategist and practitioner
• Develop and pitch forward-thinking search strategies that extend beyond rankings, with a focus on inclusion in AI-powered experiences (e.g., Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and other LLMs), particularly for B2B, financial services, & pharmaceutical companies
• Collaborate with marketers, content strategists, and analytics experts to build holistic digital strategies optimized for both search engines and generative models
• Educate teams across the organization on the evolving role of SEO and GEO, and their impact on brand visibility and performance
• Proactively evaluate, implement, and own SEO/GEO tools and technologies to ensure Modus remains at the forefront of search and AI innovation
• Provide thought leadership on the future of search, contributing perspectives for internal marketing, client engagements, and new business opportunities
• Define and continuously refine Modus’ SEO/GEO methodologies, frameworks, and best practices, learning, mastering, and introducing the latest tools so we can guide our work and advise clients effectively.
• Work collaboratively with project managers, account leads, designers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver integrated solutions
• Communicate progress, insights, and recommendations clearly to internal stakeholders and clients
• Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the evolution of the role and the business

Qualifications

• 4–5 years of experience in digital marketing, with deep SEO expertise for enterprise-level brands and a strong understanding of emerging GEO strategies
• Expertise in presenting and translating complex SEO/GEO strategies to senior stakeholders
• Experience managing, scaling, and evolving enterprise search programs, with a forward-looking approach that incorporates AI search ecosystems
• Proven ability to develop search strategies for website projects, launches, and digital ecosystems; optimized for both traditional search engines and generative platforms
• Strong technical and content auditing skills, with the ability to identify issues and opportunities impacting visibility across search engines and AI models
• Clear, forward-thinking perspective on the evolution of search, including the role of large language models, AI Overviews, and generative discovery experiences
• Ability to define, operationalize, and communicate SEO/GEO processes, frameworks, and best practices across teams
• Exceptional quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to turn data into actionable insights
• Hunger to learn and curiosity to experiment with the latest technologies and teach our teams and clients how to apply them.
• Hands-on experience with core SEO tools (e.g., Google Search Console, Google Analytics, SEMrush, BrightEdge, Yext, Screaming Frog) and familiarity with emerging AI/search monitoring tools
• Strong curiosity and passion for search, with up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, including algorithm changes, AI advancements, and their impact on visibility and performance
